ZR Speaker Lab is a small company based in Slovenia, Europe. It is specialized in production of only High-end, hand-made speakers and audio devices made from the highest quality materials. The production is limited. It is well known worldwide for its unique sound and designs.

The company was founded in 1983 by Zvone Raspor. He has more than 30 years of experience in audio field.

Everything started with the speaker service, which gradually grew and turned into speaker modifications. Since then he repaired or modified more than 15 000 speakers and many other audio devices. This gave him a very a powerful insight into every possible problem or wish that customer has about the speakers

He was teaching the flute for more than 8 years, had his own band, and collaborated with many musical groups.

By doing this, he gained a profound knowledge about how real instruments and vocals should sound like. He learned many important things about sound that cannot be described by conventional parameters. That perfection of sound is brought to reality through his speakers..

The philosophy of the firm is to implement the knowledge gained from the arts into the science of speakers. ZR Speaker Lab strives to give to the speakers this intangible component, which can only be described as "soul". The result is the product that can be felt and sound that one can never forget.

ZR 25N is an impressive High-End Hand-Crafted dome tweeter with natural-silk cone. The base of this tweeter is ZR 25 C, but it uses neodymium magnet.

In a flood of hissing neodymium tweeters it is very hard to find the tweeter which would have High-End characteristics combined with a great sound. This was our primary concern. The cone is impregnated with specially developed mineral coating. This reduces the parasitic resonances of the cone and sharpens the sound-stage. In combination with the specially modified copper-ring, the distortions are drastically reduced. This effect can be especially noticed at higher volumes of amplitudes. To achieve the warm mid-section of the sound-spectrum, the modified “Helmholtz” resonator (by ZR Speaker Lab) is used in combination with the special damping of the housing. The housing of the speaker is made of Inox-Stabilit (or Aluminum-Stabilit). In this way, resonance-free housing is achieved. The protective grille of the speaker is anti-magnetic, so it does not interfere with magnetic field of the magnetic motor. This helps with the linearity of the speaker. The silk cone also contributes to warm, rich and natural sound with amazing dynamic and transients. This allows you to hear the cymbals of the drums like cymbals, not just the hissing sound “sssss”, like with most neodymium tweeters. With ZR 25N you can hear and almost feel how the drummer hits the cymbal with the stick. You can hear how the sound spreads in the room, filling it with passion that he feels about his instrument.

ZR PLANAR 18 - OVERVIEW

ZR Planar 12 is a first driver from our new future line of ultra-slim drivers from ZR Speaker Lab. It is High-End Hand-Crafted driver made with highest precision and cutting-edge materials. The main idea was to create the driver that would preserve the classical ZR sound while the thickness would be drastically reduced. The mounting thickness of ZR Planar 12 is only 25 mm (29 mm with included screw heads). It is also very light, weighing only 215g with the included grill. One of the main concerns was also how to offer it at reasonable price for the driver in this range. This would be ideal for car-audio where the mounting height is usually very scarce commodity. Also, the Vas is only 3l.

But the driver has many other applications because of the quality of its sound. It is ideal for the use in the near-field studio monitors. The sound is very natural, without any phase shifts. The frequency range is very wide for this kind of driver. The main concern when building this driver was the sound of the human vocal. It is very warm and rich. All the details can be easily heard.

One of the main advantages of this driver is a newly developed »linear drive« magnetic motor. It uses six neodymium magnets arranged in a special way, to achieve the most linear magnetic field in the direction of the voice coil movement.The magnetic motor also acts like a phase-plug at the same time, giving ZR Planar 12 very wide listening angle.

Many other special parts are used which include: resonance-free stabilit-aluminum basket, special cone coating for the paper cone, hand-wound voice coil, long-life high quality spider, and many other special parts.

Cx2 is a two-way Hand-Crafted stereo passive crossover (optional dual mono). It has a regulation of high-pass volume level so the optimal volume level between speakers can be achieved.

Noble materials (stabilit, aluminum and brass) give this crossover unique look and natural feeling when it is held in hand.

The unique design doesn't stop at the outside. It is a crossover in the full meaning of the word, not just a full box of capacitors and coils. The primary focus is the quality of sound, so it is designed to give to the speakers exactly what they need; nothing more or less. Each cut of the crossover is the same as we would cut the real picture, and then glue it back together. This crossover makes the cuts almost invisible.

It also has specially chosen highest-quality polypropylene capacitors. Each-one is measured separately. The tolerance for capacitors is +/-1%. Each voice coil is hand-wound and also measured in precision of +/- 1%. The components of this crossover have been tested for years and many satisfied customers are still using them today.
